Review
Ask the Dust (2006) has big written all over it. First, it's directed by Robert Towne, the man responsible for Chinatown (1974). Second, it's based on a novel by John Fante, the original Los Angeles literary bum, from whom Charles Bukowski got most of his shtick. Third, and biggest of all, it stars Salma Hayek showing off her Spanish fly girls. Now that makes everyone big! Salma plays a Mexican immigrant looking to marry into America when sidetracked by Colin Farrell, playing a thinly veiled version of the hard-drinking, gritty author. Hey, who can blame Fante for fantasizing about going south of Salma's border? You’ve got to crack a few eggs to make it with this Spanish omelet.
