A promising eighteen-year-old poet navigates an intensely emotional relationship with a male teacher in the critically acclaimed coming-of-age drama Blue Car (2002). Wise beyond her years, Meg (Agnes Bruckner) is a talented writer who uses her dysfunctional family situation as fodder for her poetry. The girl’s English teacher (David Strathairn) encourages her to enter a national poetry contest, and the two find themselves growing alarmingly close as they prepare for the competition. It’s no wonder that the instructor’s interests eclipse mere words on the page--newcomer Bruckner is a barely legal bombshell with a body to compliment her brains.
