William Hurt is a gubernatorial candidate in Missouri, although he and the rest of the cast all sport Deep South accents in the bizarre film The Big Brass Ring (1999). Director George Hickenlooper developed his script from a lost screenplay that Orson Welles was developing in 1974. Of course, Hurt’s character had to have his big secret updated from a mere extramarital affair, because what politician had to worry about that in 1999? It’s a bigger scandal that Hurt ignores sexy wife Miranda Richardson--although Irčne Jacob is certainly worth uncovering as a TV reporter sleeping with her subject. There are also some strippers tossed in, plus a naked turn by Sara Melson among the deleted scenes on the DVD.
