Controversial Austrian-born director Michael Haneke is known for his cinematic provocations, although some critics call them exercises in sadism. In works like Funny Games (1997) and Caché (2005), Haneke forces audiences to confront their darkest tendencies. Like many directors, Haneke cut his teeth in television, and works like Fraulein (1984) show that the snowy-haired Austrian wasn’t always so dour and preoccupied with violence. In this early TV effort, he even has some fun with veteran actress Angelica Domröse, who proves she’s still got a dazzling body even into her mid-forties.
