Three possessive sisters go to daring extremes to prevent their family’s summer house from falling into the wrong hands in Zus & zo (2001). Holland’s official entry for the 2001 Academy Awards, the whimsical comedy describes the predicament of Sonja (Monic Hendrickx), Wanda (Anneke Blok), and Michelle (Sylvia Poorta), sisters who are flabbergasted to discover that their once-gay brother (Jacob Derwig) will be taking a wife. Not only is Nino (Derwig) planning marriage, his betrothed (Halina Reijn) is positioning herself to lay claim to the family’s elegant home on the Portuguese coast. Naturally an epic catfight ensues, in which nails are bared and clothing stripped away. It’s a pleasure to watch these dames go at each other’s throats, particularly since Hendrickx, Blok, and Poorta look so irresistible in the process.
