Every marriage is a comedy, and only people who are prepared to die laughing should ever sign up for the funny business of wedded misery. The connubial couple of Out Cold (1989)--a butcher and his meat-seeking Mrs.--have a lot of love in their lives. Too bad the affection of both this husband and this wife is directed exclusively toward persons other than the legally betrothed. Divorce would seem to be the only option, and toward that end a private investigator is hired. Slapstick, cynical, and crassly sex-related, the case appears to be rollicking toward a foregone and satisfying conclusion. Then one of the principals ends up dead and the evidence points toward murder--and a queerly motivated revenge.
