You can always count on National Lampoon to bring you the best in screwball, with an emphasis on the “poon” and the “screw”. In National Lampoon’s Going the Distance (2004), best pals Nick, Dime, and Tyler road trip it to Toronto to catch up with lovesick Nick’s girlfriend Trish in the big bad city of Toronto. Along the way, our three hornball heroes are tailed by a bounty hunter, meet up with a sexy farmer’s daughter, chug beers, teach us the origin of the term “brown belt”, and pervily peep on a couple of sexy skinny-dipping hitchhikers. The zaniness reaches new heights when the trio ends up at the MuchMusic awards, where special guest appearances by Jason Priestley and Avril Lavigne push the movie from “fairly Canadian” straight over the edge and into a Strange Brew level of full-blown Canuckness. Factor in some flashes of sweeter-than-maple-syrup sweater treats on behalf of Mayko Nguyen and Kimberley Warnat, and you’ll be pointing due north in no time.
