The French have a reputation as being brazen in the realm of romance. A married man’s mistress is taken as a simple fact of life. Fidelity is for fools. This brash attitude toward arrangements between the sexes may strike many Americans who view The Nude Set (1957) as crude and insensitive, but just imagine the reaction Stateside in the year of the picture’s release! The Nude Set’s heroine, Sophie, is a bit of a bumpkin who follows her more-worldly boyfriend to the world’s center of sophisticated man-woman relations, Paris. Once in the City of Lights, Sophie realizes that she is nothing without a male. When she accompanies him to a debonair dinner club where the entertainment climaxes with a stripping filly, Sophie sees what she will have to do to snare her man.
