They haven’t caught on like teen sex comedies, but there have been plenty of high school murder comedies since the indie success of Heathers (1989). Pep Squad (1998) is an underseen effort about a sweet senior who accidentally kills her creepy principal. Jennifer Dreiling recruits her boyfriend and two best friends to help cover up the death but is then blackmailed by Amy Kelly, whose character is determined to win the title of Prom Queen. This leads to a Battle of the Bitches, while you’ll be abusing your own Prom Night staff to Summer Makovkin’s amazing pool scene.
