A detective on the Munich narcotics force watches the stresses of his job encroach on his personal life in the tough-as-nails German crime drama Der Skorpion (1997). Heiner Lauterbach stars as Josef Berthold, a decorated cop who takes the ups and downs of life on the force to heart. When his wayward teen son (Marek Harloff) is lured into the fast and dangerous world of the German drug trade, Berthold finds himself pulling double duty as a cop and father. Akin in many respects to Traffic (2000), Dominik Graf’s television production is bolstered by a smoldering supporting turn from Birge Schade, who doses and cuts loose with Josef’s son in a handful of revealing scenes. Not to be outdone, feisty blonde Petra Kleinert treats Berthold to some off-the-clock cuddle time.
