War is hell, and writer-director Jeff Burr is determined to document each and every twist of the knife in the harrowing period war drama Straight Into Darkness (2005). Likened to the cinema of Sam Peckinpah for its unflinching treatment of masculine themes, Burr’s film follows a pair of AWOL American privates as they try to escape from the hellish maze of Nazi-occupied France. On the run, and clinging to a prayer, officers Losey (Ryan Francis) and Deming (Scott MacDonald) eventually receive aid from a comely French schoolteacher (Linda Thorson) who proves sympathetic to their plight. Sadly the buxom beauty falls prey to enemy combatants, who prod her into stripping off her shirt and revealing her enormous, heaving chest.
