Love’s no cinch in The Belt (1989), Giuliana Gamba’s S&M melodrama based on a scandalous novel by the great Alberto Moravia. James Russo (Once Upon a Time in America [1984]) appears in a rare lead role as a cowed husband who recoils at his wife’s masochistic fetishes. It seems that sweet Bianca (Eleonora Brigliadori) likes to be slapped with a strap, and the camera lingers lovingly on her graceful frame as Russo tears his hair out over whether to comply with her wishes. What a dilemma!
