Review

Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979) wasn’t the only popular European Biblical parody of the late-’70s. Il Ladrone (1979), a.k.a. The Good Thief, is based on a controversial novel, with comedian Enrico Montesano keeping things light as a lowlife trying to copy what he perceives as Jesus Christ’s cons. Enrico may end up in Hell, but he first gets to enjoy heavenly Edwige Fenech as a formerly leprous hooker whose best parts have been salvaged by the Savior. There are also the bountiful blessings of Bernadette Lafont, plus the barn busting bustiness of Auretta Gay.
