A Brazilian man walks out on his high-paying finance job to pursue a career gazing into crystal balls in the Portuguese drama Prova de Fogo (1980). For most of his life, Mauro (Pedro Paulo Rangel) has possessed a unique access to the spirit world––a supernatural gift that he feels is being wasted by his work in a Rio de Janeiro bank. Dogged by his conscience, the man decides to give up his affluent lifestyle and embark on a spiritual journey. Fortunately nobody’s requiring that Mauro assume the life of an ascetic; the handsome bachelor still gets to indulge in earthly pleasures, and there’s none better than beautiful Marta Anderson and Maitê Proença to oblige him.
