Who’s the queen of the jungle? Sheena (1984) provides an unlikely but wholly appealing answer. The reigning female monarch of the verdant African plain is a white, blonde woman who cavorts, like the animals, wearing nothing beyond her bared fangs and her fur. Rich with stunning footage of Kenyan jungles and gracefully grazing wildlife, this John Guillermin-directed trip into the dark continent illustrates that Sheena has an almost telepathic understanding of the beasts of the jungle, bringing light and love to their feral, predatory lives. It is as if they have all settled in the paradise of Eden, until a neighboring warlord decides to expand his tribal territory. The animals are organized, and they are ready to take their revenge.
