Review
An unusually hard-hitting French political thriller that deals with the ambiguous relationship and underlying racism between France and one of her former colonies -- a developing central African country. Set in the early 1960s, the story revolves around a young French couple who find themselves adrift in the politically charged atmosphere of a recently established black state. The man (Dutronc) is a UNESCO official who finds that his wife (Barrault) is having an illicit affair with the powerful Minister of Health. Filmed under the punishing sun of French Guinea, the film is an accomplished and taut drama of corruption, hatred and deceit. (French with English subtitles)
