NBC worked hard trying to fit the oddball humor of David Letterman into the talk-show format. From failed morning programs to the career-making late-night show, the network simply didn’t know what they had in the popular funnyman, so he bailed for CBS to go head-to-chin with Jay Leno’s Tonight Show. Letterman’s Late Show with David Letterman was an instant ratings winner and perennial powerhouse for the Tiffany Network. It’s no wonder why, with a parade of some of stardom’s sexiest sirens. Who can forget Drew Barrymore leaping on Letterman’s desk for a topless table dance? Letterman must have given her an A in his pants for that routine.
