Review

A truly terrific horror flick is creepy, compelling, and alarming even when the audience is acutely aware of what will happen next. By this criteria, the made-for-television Carrie (2002) is a bloody classic in the genre of titillation and terror. A loving updating of cheese-and-sleaze master director Brian De Palma’s 1976 classic of the same name, Carrie delights and distresses with the emotional straits of a high-school girl blessed and cursed with an uncontrollable case of telekinesis. Classmates can be so cruel at that age. Although the mean kids might have been a great degree kinder if they’d ever seen Carrie the original and learned the deadly lesson in manners it had to teach them.
