A rundown coastal hamlet uses a feel-good beauty contest to polish its public image in the whimsical British film Carry On Girls (1973). Sid James stars as Sidney Fielder, a local councilman and wheeler-dealer who’s convinced that by luring curvy models to his village it will give the place a hormonal shot in the arm. Unfortunately Sid’s plan is compromised by a political faction led by Augusta Prodworthy (June Whitfield), an outspoken feminist who’s opposed to the glorification of female flesh. As the two butt heads, it’s clear that Sid has already tasted victory. After all, Margaret Nolan and Barbara Windsor get gloriously naked, marking a certain victory for the skinhounds.
