A maladroit and easily frustrated French woman experiences amusing, occasionally cruel adventures in the comedy Romaine (1997). Director Agnès Obadia stars as Romaine, a homely young woman whose clumsy manner frightens off would-be suitors. Because of her lack of luck in love (and a name better suited for a head of lettuce), Romaine spends much of the time feeling supremely dejected. It doesn’t stop her from throwing herself at men, however. Occasionally she does this sans clothes, which makes it doubly hard for the boys to pretend they don’t notice.
