In Darling (1965), fabulous fashion model Julie Christie looks back on her life during an interview, and it’s not a pretty tale. Christie, however, is gorgeous as a swinging ’60s gal determined to screw her way to the top. She gets lucky with TV journalist Dirk Bogarde, who ditches his family in favor of introducing Julie to the rich and powerful. There’s an abundance of social commentary crammed into this classic, but nothing that echoes like Julie’s shameless performance. This is the film that truly earned her a place as one of the decade’s great sex symbols.
