In the pantheon of perverse lesbian love stories, Desert Hearts (1985) is right up there with Personal Best (1982) as one tasty rug-muncher. Helen Shaver is stuck in a loveless marriage in the bleak sexual graveyard of the '50s. She moves to Reno, Nevada, to take advantage of the state's liberal divorce laws. But what she wasn't expecting was to fall for Patricia Charbonneau, an open and self-assured girl-lover and ranch owner's daughter. The two are soon naked and writhing on top of one another in a scene sure to lasso your bucking bronco. Andrea Akers adds a bit more boob to keep things interesting. All that girl-girl flesh against the rocky landscape, with a swooning country and western soundtrack, is sure to give audiences a desert heart-on.
