Don’t let the title fool you, Refinements in Love (1971) is pure, classic hardcore sex. It’s a bit of a Mondo-like effect from director Carlos Tobalina, in that the sex scenes are segued with mockumentary sequences on the burgeoning sex scene of the ’70s. The nudes are too numerous to name, mostly loop girls who have faded to obscurity even to the skincyclopedic knowledge of Mr. Skin. But there is one fine female who made a name for herself, Rene Bond, who plays the girl in the talcum-powder scene and gets her pussy powdered as well. The film ends with the profound statement: “If sex is outlawed, only outlaws will have sex.” Amen.
