Thanks to a famous foot-long member, John Curtis Estes––better known as John C. Holmes––was able to make the improbable leap from married forklift operator to one of the most successful male adult-film stars of all time. Wadd: The Life and Times of John C. Holmes (1998) chronicles the rise and fall of the charismatic porn star, best known for his Raymond Chandler-esque detective creation Johnny Wadd. Using archival footage and interviews, director Wesley Emerson explores Holmes’s drug addiction and crime connections, as well as his legendary throbbing member. Given the fact that Holmes claimed to have slept with thousands of women, there’s a disappointing dearth of female nudity on display here. Ginger Lynn Allen is the lone exception, appearing in a pair of archival clips sans clothing.
