Real life is replete with warts, asthma, and eczema, and because these blemishes and ailments deserve their place in the realm of cinema, Australian director John Curran poured his heart and his guts into Praise (1998). This award-winning festival favorite follows the blighted fortunes of two lonely but deserving losers who stumble upon one another, fall into bed, and form an alliance that may have the power to save them or may trigger the hammer blow that drives the last nail into their respective coffins.
