Together with Sibel Kekilli Idil Üner is easily the most popular German actress with a Turkish ancestry at the moment. Like many others before her, Idil started her career with a small role in the famous Tatort series as well as other made for German TV productions. She owes her big break to the German-Turkish director Fatih Akin who gave her important parts in two of his most critically acclaimed films. The pair first worked together in 1998 when she starred in the highly successful Kurz und Schmerzlos which won the Adolf Grimme Award (for best director and male leading actors) as well as the Bavarian Film Award (best direction - young film) and that officially made the actress a star.
