Hard-working merchant Hermann Gebürtig comes to terms with what it means to be a Jew in modern-day Vienna in the poignant film Gebürtig (2002). Confronted by a former Auschwitz survivor for not doing enough for the Jewish cause, Hermann sets out to make things more kosher for himself and his community. On top of his pious pondering and good works, Gebürtig’s matzo balls do a little biblical bouncing among some of the breast undressed chosen people ever, including German Jezebels Ruth Rieser, Maria Seweryn, and Katja Weitzenböck. Mazel tov to this multi-cultural, many-mammed skinematic effort.
