A prostitute is “reformed” by her love for a brilliant painter in Die Sünderin (1951). Marina’s (Hildegard Knef) life as a sinner takes a turn when she meets artist Alexander (Gustav Fröhlich). They retire to the peaceful countryside, where Marina serves as a magnificent muse for Alexander’s paintings. But when Marina finds out Alex has a brain tumor, she is forced back into her old way of life to pay for his surgery. They couple travel to Italy but the cancer cannot be cured; and on top of everything else, Alex is going blind. When he requests that Marina put him out of his misery, she has to decide whether she can live without him.

Hildegard Knef lets out her heaving hills as a model posing for a nude painting in happier times.  She’ll get your paintbrush stroking!
