A disturbed young woman wreaks havoc on the psyche of a mental-health specialist in the eerie Euro horror film La Visione del Sabba (1988). Daniel Ezralow stars as David, a doctor who’s assigned to rehabilitate an eerily beautiful woman who insists she’s a witch. At first David is skeptical of Sabba’s (Béatrice Dalle) claims of being a seventeenth-century sorceress who’s patiently waiting to give up her virginity, but he begins to believe her after having strange dreams in which the woman is burned at the stake. Italian director Marco Bellocchio knows how to strike the right tone of fear and intoxication, and he’s fortunate enough to have a lead actress who’s up to the task. Dalle dazzles as she offers up eyefuls, and co-star Corinne Touzet keeps pace with some flesh flashes of her own.
