A German cast revives the thrills and chills of a 1930s Hollywood classic in a made-for-TV adaptation of Edgar Wallace: Whiteface (1998). Like the original, the film centers on a master thief who adopts clever disguises to trip up the police. Known only as Whiteface, the shady character is tracked by a Scotland Yard inspector, an intrepid physician, and other crack gumshoes. Director Wolfgang F. Henschel isn’t shy about brashly modernizing the set-up, however. He casts the scintillating Bojana Golenac as a blonde stripper who offers viewers a couple of shakes free of charge.
