That blurry line where the crooks and the cops meet in a confused melding of motives and purpose is the juncture walked by Vice Squad (1982). Prostitutes are only human, and the same can be said about the cops who are assigned to bust them and book them. Naturally, familiarity breeds a form of affection, a kind regard that passes through the permeable barrier that separates the two sides in the conflict between law and lawlessness at street level. So when hookers start getting knocked off, you can expect that at least one dedicated but sentimental officer on the prostitute patrol will go soft on a whore who is sweeter than her job title might indicate. Can the copper save the harlot before the stalker strikes again?
