The Egon Schiele of Egon Schiele - Exzess und Bestrafung (1981) was one of Austria's most important artists. He was tried for pornography in 1912, based on paintings of his nymph-like muse Tatjana (embodied in the movie by Karina Fallenstein). Schiele's romantic partner, Vally (here portrayed by Jane Birkin), worked successfully with a lawyer to spring him from jail, only to have the artist ditch her, marry somebody else, and enlist to fight in World War I. Egon Schiele - Exzess und Bestrafung recreates the facts most effectively and spices them up with dazzling nude contributions from an alluring array of the artist's skin-spirations.
