Literary madman Norman Mailer wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the experimental mind-bender Maidstone (1970). He plays Norman T. Kingsley, a visionary filmmaker who announces that he’s running for President of the United States, which creates a firestorm of controversy, female nudity, and an attempt on the candidate’s life, all shot in improvisatory, semi-documentary style. Maidstone is a four-star freak-out.
