The Magus (1968) is an existential brain-twister by author John Fowles that stars Michael Caine as a schoolteacher who takes a job on a Greek isle. There he meets a prankster played by Anthony Quinn and falls for his girl, Candice Bergen, who still thinks it’s WWI. While it’s hard to make sense of the maze of mystery that follows, it’s clear that Candice is naked but it’s not her body. More tricks! But Anna Karina takes a topless swim that leaves nothing (expect her bush and butt, sadly) to the imagination. In the Bible, the Magus is one of the three wise men who followed the Star of Bethlehem to the Christ child’s manger. You too will be rewarded for sitting through this convoluted plot by the saving grace of Anna’s jugs.
