Italian gore veteran Joe D’Amato must have been a tad embarrassed by the bawdy Renaissance comedy Fra' Tazio da Velletri (1973), because he refused to take credit for directing it, opting instead to tag production assistant Romano Scandariato as the man behind the camera. It’s not hard to understand why D’Amato might have blushed at his creation--the erotic tale of monks and maidens features plenty of lurid encounters, most of them involving blonde bombshell Christa Linder. D’Amato might have had to shuffle off to a confessional, but you’ll want to enjoy the fruits of his labor.
