Tried and true skin auteur Zalman King returns to the flesh screen with Red Shoe Diaries (1992), a stylized excursion into softcore erotica that would inspire a cable TV series after it inspired thousands of viewing couples to dim the lights and lie back in lavishly focused, darkly moody bliss. X-Files hunk of sensitivity David Duchovny stars as a stricken lover mourning the suicide of the beauty of his life. Looking for clues in her diaries, Duchovny discovers that his dearly departed had been locked in an affair with a shoe-salesman Lothario, a romancer who triggered his trysts with the sale of a special red pair. As more is uncovered, Duchovny comes to see that some hidden truths are meant to be discovered.
