With Mother of Tears (2007), Italian horror maestro Dario Argento ends his "Three Mothers Trilogy," which was previously comprised of Suspiria (1977) and Inferno (1980). Dario's real-life daughter, Asia Argento, plays Sarah, an American art student visiting Rome, who finds an ancient urn and unwittingly unleashes a series of demonic doings on the city. The wicked force behind the supernatural mayhem is Mater Lacrimarum (Moran Atias), the last of three witches who have terrorized humanity for centuries. As Sarah is blessed with psychic abilities, it is up to her to do battle with the witch's ungodly armies and prevent the downfall of, first, Rome and, subsequently, everyone and everything else. Once again, Dario Argento has whipped up one Mother of a brilliantly frightful good time.
