An afflicted woman and her devoted husband find their marriage strained by her worsening health in the made-for-TV German melodrama Versprich mir, dass es den Himmel gibt (1999). Sandra Speichert stars as Cora Ludwig, a photographer’s model who develops a rapidly debilitating form of cancer. Her husband Louis (Mehmet Kurtulus) resolves to provide support during her period of treatment, but he’s soon tempted away by the arrival of an ex-flame (Sonsee Neu). Because Ludwig’s resigned to her fate, she’s more understanding of her husband’s transgressions than he expected, causing an unorthodox threesome to emerge. In sickness and in health, Speichert’s nothing short of a bombshell, and she proves it by luxuriating in a warm and bubbly bath.
