Brittany Robertson is Lux, a fifteen-year-old girl who decides to become an emancipated minor after spending her life going from foster family to foster family in the comedic drama series Life Unexpected. But when Lux finds her 30-something biological father, Nate "Baze" Bazile (Kristoffer Polaha), who had no idea he had a daughter, and her mother, Cate (Shiri Appleby), a local radio personality, a judge decides to grant temporary custody of Lux to Baze and Cate instead of emancipating her.
