Any provincial bumpkin who has ever had his feelings hurt and his right to exist impugned by rabid, big-city snobs during a trip to the metropolis can take solace in revenge by proxy with a single viewing of Cannibal ferox (1981). Alternately titled Make Them Die Slowly, Italian director Umberto Lenzi’s bloody and horrific Amazon travelogue documents the fictional (but damn real-looking) capture, dismemberment, and consumption of five New York City bores of the most unbearable type by ferocious and inventively brutal cannibals. Slighted and vindictive out-of-towners will shiver with delight at scenes of eyeball poking and castration. All will be, if not forgiven, at least blood under the bridge once the Gotham natives literally spill their guts.
