This harrowing, beautifully acted teenage rite-of-passage film from young Danish director August is a comedy-drama that explores a web of complex familial and romantic relationships surrounding four young friends. Never once sinking to the level of a typical American teenage coming-of-age film, Twist and Shout instead creates a kinetic excitement of youthful sexuality as director August proves himself wonderfully capable of portraying the agony and ecstacy of adolescent life.
