Don't let the cover fool you: there's no up-the-skirt delectables in Tart (2001), the tale of Dominique Swain (she of Lolita [1997] fame) dealing with the difficulties of private school. Instead of dirty peeks of magnifique Dominique, Tart is packed with artsy pain: Dom is having a bum time since her best buddy got expelled. To deal with it all, she takes to hanging around with the snooty-toot crowd. Her way in is Brad Renfro, a male ho with a bad habit of doing drugs. Add up the "sex" and the "drugs" from the tagline "Sex, Drugs, and Study Hall," and you'll get something less than you'd expect: there's zero actual sex, and the drugs are the sum of Brad's diddlings with Scott Thompson. Dominique doesn't get to use much or get used much in this one, which weaves its indie story with episodic vignettes and also features pert pets Bijou Phillips and Mischa Barton.
