Two very different men clash in a rapidly changing Russia in the drama Taxi Blues (1990). Ivan Lyosha (Pyotr Zaychenko) is a dour, hard-working taxi driver who hates the new Russia and longs for the good old days of communism. His obstinate attitude is reinforced when he meets Alexi Lyosha (Pyotr Mamonov), a freewheeling, alcoholic jazz musician who loves Western freedoms and shirks responsibility wherever he can. Alexi stiffs Ivan on cab fare, prompting Ivan to track him down and begin a love-hate game of one-upmanship. When Alexi goes to America on tour and returns a world-famous musician, Ivan tries to re-kindle their relationship- and he just might get his wish.
