A bricklayer and his friend conspire to rob a tobacconist in the clever Spanish thriller La Estanquera de Vallecas (1987). Desperate for cash, Leandro (José Luis Gómez) and Tocho (José Luis Manzano) plan to stick up the owner of the tiny Madrid shop and flee with the loot. Things don’t go quite as planned, however, when they end up falling victim to the plucky establishment owner’s courage and verve. And when one of the thieves falls head-over-heels for the woman’s niece (Maribel Verdú), the plan officially goes to hell. It’s hard to blame the poor sap, though--Verdú’s nubile body is more than sizzling enough to make up for any lost income.
