Bill Murray gets Scrooged (1988) in this dark comedy from Richard Donner about a real humbug who gets the dickens scared out of him. He's the meanest exec in all of TV land, and there isn't anything he won't do for ratings. As Christmas approaches, Bill is filling the airwaves with ho-ho-horrible stuff like "The Night the Reindeer Died" and a retelling of A Christmas Carol starring Mary Lou Retton as a tumbling Tiny Tim—it's going on live, and that means the staff is stuck at work on Christmas Eve! Then three spooks come along to screw with this Scrooge the only way they know how: by frightening him into doing right by those who need him. David Johansen, Carol Kane, and a headless Ghost of Christmas Future are Bill's guides from the other side, and they wound his pride, prick his ego, and taunt him with the hotness of Karen Allen, the woman he loved back before his heart became a lump of coal.
