A world-weary Pat Garrett agrees to hunt down his former pal Billy the Kid in Sam Peckinpah’s elegiac, ultra-violent western classic Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973). James Coburn plays the grizzled, aging sheriff who feels ambivalent about hunting down the lively William Bonney (Kris Kristofferson) for the wealthy members of a cattle syndicate. Boasting rousing gunfights, superb performances, and a soundtrack (and cameo) by Bob Dylan, Peckinpah’s 1973 classic is among his very finest works. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the restored special edition boasts a flurry of bonus skin, including sexy dressing-downs from Rutanya Alda and Rita Coolidge.
