Oscar-nominated director Jan Troell returns after a five-year hiatus with Så vit som en snö (2001), a luminous historical drama set in turn-of-the-century Sweden. Based on the real-life adventures of a pioneering aviatrix, the film--translated As White as in Snow--stars Amanda Ooms as an orphaned woman whose driving force is a desire to fly. Although the farmer’s daughter meets strong resistance at flight school, she eventually proves her mettle and is granted a seat in the cockpit. Troell’s historical opus is close to three hours in length, which affords Ooms at least one opportunity to show some oomph. During one scene, the sexy Swede traipses the Scandinavian hillside in the buff, encouraging the interest of a randy passerby.
