Review

Sandrine Kiberlain earned critics’ raves for her performance in the impressionistic arthouse drama Love Me (2000). Starring as the free-spirited Gabrielle, Kiberlain perfectly evokes a rock-loving teenager who lives in a trailer on the windswept beaches of northern France. The young woman’s outlook is relentlessly positive, but her days of drinking and carousing begin to catch up with her, making her wonder if there isn’t more to life than winsome play. Love Me is the third film in a trilogy by Laetitia Masson, and it’s clear that the director’s saved her best stuff for last. Kiberlain and co-star Julie Depardieu both shine in their roles, the former by dropping her tiny white towel.
