The BBC may soon be known for strap-on dildos thanks to its three-part mini-series Tipping the Velvet (2002), based on the popular book of the same name. Rachael Stirling plays a male-impersonator music-hall star in Victorian England. Her family runs an oyster bar, so you know she's got a thing for clams. She ends up shucking Keeley Hawes's clam after getting aroused by her cross-dressing routine. After she loses her lady fair, Rachael becomes a streetwalker and eventually the slave to a rich dominatrix, Anna Chancellor. Maybe she should have tipped the velvet a bit more.
