Not to belittle the benefits of fornication with a frown, but Sex with a Smile (1976) does its wacky and sexy best to raise the corners of viewers’ mouths as well as up the mercury in their lap thermometers. Italian by inclination and origination, this collection of five unrelated vignettes pokes gentle fun at sexual foibles and erotic attitudes that are universal in nature. Only an unfeeling cad could not sympathize with the plight of Marty Feldman when he is hired by a rich man to safeguard the purity of the tycoon’s ripe-for-plucking daughter. Who among us would not, like the rich man in another snippet, offer amber tressed delicacy Barbara Bouchet a princely sum for the pleasure of her physical affections, if only funding were not an issue? Sex with a Smile is serious truth presented all in good fun.
